THE MONTESSORI SKYLARK
A poem by our Parent Ronald Suthakar Xavier, written on his parenting transformation by living the Montessori Mantra “Follow the Child”
Every time when my infant son had that infectious smile
I always lost moments for a while
As my thoughts started to wander
Into his childhood and yonder
This gives us an understanding that
There was this angel voice so mild
That said “Follow the Child”
Even with deep thinking it did not make sense
To follow the child, sure would make me tense
What then would be the depth
Of this confusing mysterious truth
Whispered by the voice so mild
That said “Follow the Child”
As he started his life journey with those steps so tender
First in crawls then through walks that came later
The truth of the message started dawning
As his potentials started unravelling
I was happy as the voice so mild
That said ‘Follow the Child”
I started to see that my child would grow
Naturally with an uninterrupted potential grow
Prayed that it should never be stopped on the go
By anything in this world or even by my adult ego
Just by listening to the voice so mild
That said “Follow the Child”
Clouds of doubt started to gather
In his abilities as ages passed over
Writing and reading became harder
I believed and waited for that moment of wonder
As told by the voice so mild
That said “Follow the Child”
Trusted his intuitions and freedom
Assisted him in creating his own kingdom
Nurtured his passions, channelled his emotions
Offered my hand in commotions
As told by the voice so mild
That said “Follow the Child”
Today I stand so proud
As an unique one in the crowd
As others see my son’s prowess unfold
Appraised and appreciated by the world
As I just harkened by the voice so mild
That said “Follow the Child”
This happiness and joy enjoyed by my son
Should be there for all children under the sun
Let’s get together to change the world of children
To one of without a burden
By following this voice so mild
That said “Follow the Child”
